Peace and Togetherness

Ahead of the National Elections, we organized a small community cleanup in Gatina, Kawangware to emphasize on working together and maintaining peace. This was the second cleanup we've organized and our hope is to eventually develop a local waste collection and recycling plant. Many youth from REALL Cycle, Light and Power Centre, and residents from Gatina participated in the event. Next month we hope to showcase several new recycled products

Story-Telling 101

Last week we hosted workshops on journalism and story-telling at our church with NPR Producer, Jim Wildman. A group of about 15 joined us for the three days

The team used video, photography, writing, and audio to learn how to find, tell, and share stories. Many of the participants are young and aspiring journalists and story tellers. We look forward to sharing more of their stories in the days to come.

A Visit from the Wildmans

The past two weeks we have enjoyed connecting with the Wildman family (Jim, Suby, Eli, Henry, and Wake). The Wildman's are in the midst of a one year, around-the-world adventure and have been a great encouragement to us in Nairobi. Jim is a producer with National Public Radio and last week helped us run workshops at our church on journalism and story-telling. Meanwhile, Suby has been teaching music lessons at Akiba School, and the boys assisted with an intensive cleanup effort in Gatina, Kawangware. Today they depart for their 22nd country and a whole new series of adventures in Asia. Learn more about their time in Kenya and follow their journey at:

Gather and Care Conference

Vulnerable groups are present in every community. Orphans, widows, disabled persons, refugees, child soldiers, victims of sex trafficking, and more are in our midst. Churches are called to reach out, protect and care for the vulnerable and marginalized, but unfortunately we often don't know how to do this or feel overwhelmed by the needs. During January, our friends from Gather and Care Ministries helped facilitate a conference for Anglican Church Leaders on ministering to the vulnerable in their communities. The aim is to equip local churches and to mobilize them  to develop pilot projects for holistic care of the fatherless, husbandless, orphan, and widow. Lucy and Dave are serving as links with the local church in Nairobi.  Below are a few photos.
